American Eye Study Club Foundation

The AESC Foundation was established as a charitable organization by members of the American Eye Study Club to support the Club's educational and philanthropic activities.   Its affairs are managed by 11 trustees who are members of the American Eye Study Club with the assistance of a "corporate trustee" and an executive director.  The AESC Foundation is qualified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which means donations are deductible as a charitable contribution.  (Donors always should consult with their own tax adviser for specifics on deductions.)

In 2004, the Foundation established a lecture to be given each year at the annual meeting of the American Eye Study Club
.  At the 50th AESC annual meeting (in 2007), this lecture was named for Donna and Jerry Knauer to honor their longstanding support for the AESC and its ideals, as well as their significant backing for the Foundation.

Foundation Projects

Although relatively young, the AESC Foundation already has been active to support the educational activities of the American Eye Study Club.  For example, the Foundation provides an annual grant to support the CME activities at the AESC annual meeting.  In addition, new members -- who are expected to give a lecture during their first two years in the organization -- may apply for a grant to help cover the costs for their presentation at the meeting.
