The AESC Foundation was established as a charitable organization by members of the AESC to support the Club's educational and philanthropic activities. Donations to the Foundation are deductible as charitable contributions. Its affairs are managed by five trustees who are members of the American Eye Study Club with the assistance of a "corporate trustee" and an executive director.
In 2004, the Foundation established a lecture to be given each year at the Club annual meeting. At the 50th AESC annual meeting (in 2007), the lecture was named for Donna and Jerry Knauer to honor their longstanding support for the AESC and its ideals, as well as their significant backing for the Foundation.
